Message from Outgoing Lions President (July 2007-June 2009) Tom Gannaway:
Many of you have joined the Lions Club of Ponce Inlet in the last two years. You may not know I was drafted and was a reluctant write-in candidate for President. Upon being elected I announced that I had two goals for our club. First, was to have fun at our meetings, introduce social functions and for our club to become an enjoyable club of which to be a member. The second was to increase our membership by recruiting new members who both wanted to have fun and to serve the community and people in need.
I believe we have achieved both of these goals over the past two years. Our club has become a friendlier, more social club in which all our Lions enjoy one another. Because we are an open friendlier club in which almost all Lions both work and play together, we have increased our membership. I believe 17 of our current membership of 41 have joined in the past two years with potentially 4 more new Lions joining in May. You become a Lion by being invited by a Lion to join. Lions Margaret Ann, Kassandra, Hazel and Jim Hinson in particular have done a wonderful job of asking their friends, neighbors and contacts to join.
I had a third unannounced goal to increase our charitable contributions while eliminating our annual draw of funds from our Foundation investment account. We have substantially increased our contributions, thanks to all the Lions that pitched in to raise the funds, and this year did not have to draw funds from the Foundation.
I want to thank every Lion for their support and hard work to make these successes possible; it’s every Lion’s achievement. I am very confident that the Lions Club of Ponce Inlet has only just begun to hit its stride. I look forward to turning the gavel over to President-elect Margaret Ann and look forward to her leadership. A good club is going to become a great club in 2009-2010 under her leadership.
Tom Gannaway, President
Lions Club of Ponce Inlet
